A partir de 1966 habría una división entre los interpretes del Rock: por un lado los que continuaron con la costumbre de copiar canciones extranjeras y por otro lado los que optaron por tocar sus propias composiciones. Los del primer grupo fueron muy numerosos, sin embargo los que alcanzarían el éxito serian muy pocos y su periodo de popularidad no lograria pasar la decada de los 60. Entre 1966 y 1968 destacaron Los Hitters con Meny Muños como cantante, sus exitos mas grandes fueron Un Hombre Respetable, Hierba Verde, Todos Aman un Payaso, Ahora estoy Solo, Milagro de Amor y su solitario hit de 1968 Alto mas Alto, después de los cual se agotó su popularidad.

En la segunda mitad de los años sesenta varios grupos procedentes del norte del país invadieron la capital mexicana con estilos diferentes a los que estábamos acostumbrados. El rock’n roll y el Twist dejaban de ser los ritmos principales para dar paso a otras corrientes musicales. Uno de estos conjuntos fue el de Los Hitters, quienes junto a Los Rockin Devils, Los Apson, Los Yaki, los Johnny Jets y Los Belmonts entre otros, inician una nueva aventura con gran influencia de grupos ingleses y americanos como The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Doors, Tommy James & The Shondells, Dave Clark Five, Los Monkees, etc.
